The following is a step-by-step guide to getting started with the ChannelUnity platform. While this guide may not be exhaustive, it will give you links to necessary information you might need.
Sign-up for a ChannelUnity account
Visit https://www.channelunity.com/choose-your-trial/ and start your 14 day free trial. If you have an online store already, then select Multichannel Manager. If you would like us to provide you with an online store, select Synchromatic.
When you have created your account, you will receive an email with the details of how to access your account. If you use Synchromatic or Bigcommerce for example, then you will be able to access ChannelUnity from within this panel. In all cases you can access your ChannelUnity account by visiting https://my.channelunity.com/.
Ensure that your online store is connected to ChannelUnity
The set of articles on this site under “Online stores” guide you through connecting your specific shopping cart software to ChannelUnity. You can then make a change to a product and save it. After a couple of minutes the change you made should show in ChannelUnity. If you selected Synchromatic, the connection step is done automatically for you.
Your online store acts as the authoritative source of product information. Any changes to the product description or prices etc. of your listings must be done in your online store. ChannelUnity will pull this information through and update your marketplaces. Do not edit listing information directly on your marketplaces as this will get overwritten by ChannelUnity, unless your settings are configured to not overwrite certain information.
Field mapping and category mapping
Field mapping is the process of telling ChannelUnity which product fields from your online store map onto which fields in ChannelUnity. This allows us to list products correctly onto marketplace. For example you may store your product prices in a field called “marketplace price” or feature bullet points in a field called “bullet points”. Field mapping is the process of ChannelUnity which field is which. We assume a sensible set of defaults which will work fine for most users. We recommend you check and amend your field mapping before starting to list products.
Category mapping tells ChannelUnity into which marketplace categories you want to list your products. ChannelUnity uses a unique system for category mapping. When you map your online store categories in ChannelUnity you specify a generic ChannelUnity category name. This is then automatically mapped to the best marketplace category available. It also means that when you add a new marketplace, you don’t need to repeat all of your category mapping. You can complete all your category mapping before listing products, or you can do it bit by bit as required when listing products.
